I have been a customer of Great Southwest Furniture for quite a number of years. My first order was a coffee set, which consisted of a coffee table and two armchairs. I was a little apprehensive after placing the order because this was before Great Southwest had set up a website, so all information was handled by phone and snail mail.
I need not have worried: The coffee set was beautiful, both in design and structure. I was hooked on the furniture that Julian Reyes’ company produced! Over the next few years, Great Southwest Furniture designed and crafted for me a dining room set, bedroom set, a bar with stools, valances, a curio cabinet and a video /audio storage cabinet, amongst other things.
What is so great about purchasing from Great Southwest is that they customize each order. You can choose the dimensions, style, color and finish of each piece of furniture. Great Southwest will help you to decide what would be best for your project if you are unsure as to what you want.
I am a visual artist and on several occasions, I have designed a piece of furniture, usually using the Southwest motifs such as sunbursts, rope and chip carving, and Julian has taken my designs and transformed them into beautiful pieces of furniture.
Great Southwest also makes pieces that are not in the Southwest mode, like their Old World series, for example, and you can also choose the type of wood to be used for your project. Most of my furniture has been crafted from sugar pine but my Old World curio cabinet was made with alder wood.
When I have visitors to my house, the first thing that is usually commented upon is the beautiful furniture. Most of the pieces that I have ordered from Great Southwest have had a sandblasted finish with a stain applied and then the use of a color rub. This gives the furniture a beautiful, antique look. In my opinion, the pictures on Great Southwest’s website do not, for the most part, show the real beauty of this type of finish.
I create painted, wooden wall sculptures, sometimes very brightly colored, and when I hang them on the walls of my house, the beauty of Julian Reyes’ furniture compliments my humble efforts.
